So, with less touring to focus on (see post about the USA), we’re now free to throw ourselves headlong into a BRAND NEW JESUS JONES album! We’re hoping to have it released by the end of this year, and it’s going to be called…….. “Twilight”
Any significance to the title? Well, yes – there’s loads. Initially, Mike chose it because it fitted so many of the themes to the material: Twilight of empires and humanity, for our years and careers. The word pops up in a specific chorus, and it just made sense. But the more we thought about it, it seemed to gain even more power: Twilight is, after all, not just the Sun setting, but also that time as it rises. It’s the same force, as equal and opposite, for both sides of the day, and for all of us. Things come to an end, but they begin again, as well. That really resonated with us.
And overall, there’s a central idea to the album as well – we just thought: What if we could do what we wanted? What if we could write songs which were still – nominally – Jesus Jones songs, but which let us explore whatever sounds we felt like? So, there are tracks on the album which will hopefully surprise and even confound you. You’ll have obviously heard a few tracks by now – “Animal Instinct”, “Still Smiling” and “Blue Skies” – but there are already so many more waiting in the wings. Some of the titles include:
“Bad Zoo Rescue”
“Shot In the Chevy”
“Brief Flashes Of Light”
And there’s loads more!
Let’s face it, we don’t release albums all that often these days, so when we do, we want to get it right. With “Twilight”, we really think we have done.
We can’t wait to share more of the album with you.
